This weekend’s Trifextra Challenge offers the opportunity to provide 33 words related to a photo. I chose this one:
My submission is titled “Dreams of Greatness:”
Should she unfurl her majestic wings for the hunt?
Her prey was not furred and fast-moving
but fried and dropped by hasty pedestrians.
Eagle or not, riding thermals in NYC was always fantastic.

True! Pigeons have their own majesty. Predators get all the glory I find.
Truly! Pigeons are second only to seagulls…having grown up on the Jersey shore, I have many a harrowing tale of the strong-willed gull in battle with the unknowing tourist…
Seriously, if a NYC pigeon comes for your street treat, give it up, they have the advantage.
So very true! That first look says it all: “Gimme!”
Everybody loves french fries.
That is almost too true
“but fried and dropped by hasty pedestrians.” Yup, would be easy pickins’ too if it weren’t for there being ten gazillion other pigeons in the vicinity. Heh. Cute story
Thank you!
Sad but true about the fried food. I always find that disturbing when I see tourists tossing junk food to animals. But, who can resist those thermals – that’s the upside!
Right? I can’t believe some of the things people feed animals. Don’t even get me started on safari parks…
There is an excitement about NYC that you’ve captured well. I love riding the “thermals” there myself.
Agreed! Thank you!
I like the predatory outlook you’ve given her. A good thing to have when you’re not the only hungry pigeon.
Very true!
Having grown up on the east coast of Canada, I can attest to the nastiness of seagulls and pigeons. I think it is a sad commentary on our society that they eat “human” left-behinds to the extent that they do. When we constantly plow their habitats under, they will find their own way to live, I suppose.
I have only ever read two pieces of your writing but, I am out of line to use the term, “gritty realism” to describe your style? Regardless of term, you can just, flat out, write! I enjoy your words immensely.
Thank you so much–I am honored by your comment for sure! Must be an east coast thing…I and my family are originally from southern New Jersey
Great vantage point to scope out the food. With the element of surprise, she’s bound to score!
And they usually do…
Terrific take on this picture!
Thank you
If I was a pigeon I would probably prefer french fries to rodents too! Fun entry this week
I agree–this was a fun challenge
A refreshing view from a pigeon’s point of view!
Thank you!
I’d swoop down on some french fries
True! Me too; I have been accused of the occasional swooping when there are fries afoot…
The thrill of the thermals would be the same, in whatever form!
Very true!!
Oh I liked this! “Eagle or not, riding thermals in NYC was always fantastic” – even pigeons can have the heart of warriors! Many blessings!
Cheryl
Thank you!
Awesome!
Thank you! It was a fun prompt
City pigeon/country pigeon. Love it.
Thank you! I guess she’s a lot like me
Very creative and fitting.
Thank you Joe! It was fun writing
